Guys, I went to my local MB dealer today and asked to upgrade to a newer firmware for my COMAND APS. The representative told me it would cost me about 1.5 hours of labor or 195 Dollars to do that. How much did your dealer charge you for that service? I didn't let him do it so far because it seams a bit too much for this service in my eyes. I also asked him how much it would cost me if they would check if my car is factory pre-wired for the navigation system which goes into the trunk.

I found on mbdoctor.com that they offer two different kits. One if you're car is not pre=-wired for Navi and one for pre-wired cars.
That's why I asked him to find out for me. But they wanna charge me 2 hours or so he said. About the Comand Hu SW update I asked him to update it and he told me that can only be done via SDS.
I told him I strongly believe this can be done via Engineering Mode and the key 1+3+8 (I did that once and the display asked me for the CD to push in). He denied this and said this isn't true. I told him that i've read many postings online from people who got this service done for free, he was laughing at me! Do you know where to order this CD for my car/Comand Hu? What I don't understand is this 'As described above there are 3 different parts of COMAND-APS, the AGW, the Navigation processor and the display unit.' From I assume the Navigation Processor is the device that I don't have in my trunk, the AGW and the Display is what I have obviously. So which parts number would the CD be to get this upgraded to version 9.3?

Thanks a bunch! I assume you want to update the COMAND head unit, from your own link you can find the service CD W211 589 14 22 00 that updates Comand to SW level 22.100 46/06. I'm sure there are a lot of us out there with super negative service rep. Don;t waste your time with those dealer guys.THey don;t know S&*6t. You have a 2004 E 320 US version and it is already prewired for NAV and SAT radio. You have the command already so you are set to go. I did the exact same thing to my 2004. I got the NAV kit from the dealer for $1200 and installed it myself. Then paid them 95.00 to version code it.
That was it!! This only thing that doesn't come with the Kit is the trunk liner. You have to replace the one in your car because it does not have the opening for the DVD drive. So add another 175 bucks. For that you will need you VIN as they come in a few different shades of grey and black. If you need any help with that stuff PM me I will hook you up. The w211 2004 is an easy DIY for DVD nav., and factory IPOD kit.
If you get the drive from MB doctor cool. You will still need the bracket, a fuse, relay, and the trunk liner. And you will need to know if your car has Either SAT, Telephone, or any other options so that you will configure your MOST connections correctly. How can I find out about the SAT, Phone and co? I thought about getting this hands free kit from InCarTronics since I wanna keep this car quite a while and I think it is really worth the investments. I'm not too sure about getting Satellite Radio since I don't wanna get another subscription, but def. The phone stuff since it is illegal in Cali since July 1st to talk while driving plus it is a convenience thing. I like the idea of voice command as well. Chances are you will already know if any of these items are in your car. BUT be advised your 2004 is already prewired for everything. YOu need a few items to get the factory phone to work, but all of the wiring is there already. You will also find in your glove box an audio jack for your IPOD. These came standard on the 2004US E classes as this was the first year the integrated IPOD option was available.
In order to make the jack active, hit the audio button twice and then you will see a soft key for Aux. This turns on the jack.
Anything you plug into it can be heard on your car speakers and the volume can be controlled form the radio or your steering wheel. The IPOD interface takes that jack a step further ans allows you to actually control your ipod from you steering wheel and see the songs n your MFD. Rpg Maker Xp Mode 7 Script Download File.
Of course the GW500 is the better way to go with that. VCF ( voice comand ) will have a little lever on the right side of your steering wheel if it is installed. Hope this helps. Correct, right now I'm using a 3 feet 3.5 mm jack to 3.5 mm jack cable from RadioShack to use my iPOD nano to work in my car. Not convenient because I have to pinch my cable at one spot and the nano hangs out and rests on my passenger seat or the ashtray.
